TUES 11/14 @ 6:30pm | Drawing Out Potential: Kids & Underachievement
It’s a common misconception that ‘gifted’ equates to high achievement. Without sustained access to appropriate learning, highly capable kids who don’t experience challenge may coast to “get by,” develop habits that mask their abilities, tune out, act out, or even drop out. What’s the impact when kids disengage or fly under the radar?
Is underachievement a ‘phase’ or reason to address a possibly enduring pattern? Join St. Croix Valley Gifted for a conversation that peels away at factors that contribute to underachievement. We’ll use Gail Post’s article Who is the gifted underachiever? Four types of underachievement in gifted children (2016) as a starting point for discussion — download it here.
When | Tuesday 11/14, 6:30 – 8:30pm
Where | Brookview Elementary School Media Center
11099 Brookview Rd., Woodbury
We’ll also introduce you to results from our 2017 community input survey about gifted youth in the St. Croix Valley. How strong is local support for these learners? How are services and support shifting across K-12? What common threads emerge from people’s current concerns? How do perceptions, funding, and policy shape what happens next?
