THURS 1/11 @ 6:30pm | MCGT CHAT: Why Consider Acceleration?

St. Croix Valley Gifted welcomes Carol Maleug, MCGT State Board President, for a CHAT Night conversation that dives into academic acceleration for gifted learners: why, when, and how? What leads students to the acceleration path and what should you consider?

Should conversations focus on learning pace, depth, rigor, or some combination? Who should be involved and how do Minnesota education policies play a role? What common myths or stereotypes about giftedness and acceleration may surface during those discussions? How can student data and the research on acceleration guide the decision process in ways that support the whole child?

CHAT, a regular MCGT event hosted each month by a different chapter, stands for Connect. Help. Advocate. Talk. All are welcome to learn more about the many dimensions of parenting, teaching, and supporting gifted learners from early childhood, through their K-12 years, and into higher education.

About Our Guest: Carol Maleug

Carol Maleug is an educational researcher who has worked on three federal Javits Grant projects focused on improving identification of and services for gifted at-risk students. She has her Masters degree in Gifted, Creative, and Talented education and certification in Twice-Exceptional (2e) education through the University of St. Thomas. She serves as President on the state board of directors for the Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented (MCGT), and is a Master Facilitator and Trainer for Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG). Carol also works with the Center for K-12 Guidance as an Educational Consultant in gifted and 2e education and socio-emotional supports for gifted learners.
